Confession of Faith
Okubo Baptist Church – Japan Baptist Convention
Preface
As a gospel-preaching community established in Shinjuku, Tokyo, we affirm the following confession of faith on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of our church’s founding on July 4, 2015.
- The Bible
The Bible is the Word of God, written by divine inspiration, revealing God’s plan for human salvation. It is the sole authority for faith and daily life. - God
God is the one and only Creator of all things, existing in the triune nature of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. - Human Sin
Humanity, created by God, fell into sin through disobedience to Him and became subject to eternal destruction. - Salvation
Salvation is given by God’s grace to those who repent of their sins and believe in Jesus Christ—who became human, died on the cross for redemption, and resurrected from the dead. - The Church
The church is the gathering of those who believe in Jesus Christ and have received baptism. It observes worship and ordinances, shares in fellowship, and proclaims the gospel. - Baptism and the Lord’s Supper
Baptism symbolizes resurrection into new life, and the Lord’s Supper commemorates Christ’s redemptive death. Both are ordinances instituted by Jesus Christ. - The Lord’s Day
The first day of the week is observed as the Lord’s Day, commemorating the resurrection of Jesus Christ and serving as the starting point for our daily lives. - Freedom of Faith
Faith in Jesus Christ is free from all external control. In response to God’s grace and love, we serve the Lord and our neighbors with gratitude and prayer. - Hope for the End Times
We eagerly await the return of Jesus Christ and believe that when we stand before God, Christ will intercede for us.
